Mirror Moves for Private Eyes

"the mirror as a psychic receptor, a magical portal to visionary and ecstatic states, through self-reflection and visualization....auras of glamour, artifice and fantasy are used in a hypnotic, meditative way, creating pathways towards transcendence and personal gnosis. The collages in the show are composed of elements which were also used in the video, creating a reflexive cast of characters and symbols, which mirror back and forth, referencing each other."

Long time partners and artistic collaborators, Vashti Windish and Cameron Michel have chosen to construct an alternate dimension that depicts an emotional discourse rarely investigated in modern art, Love. Refractographs

"The interplay and the interaction of light on materials and surfaces has long been a fascination for me. As a research scientist and microscopist I used many optical and lighting techniques to gain a deeper understanding of the nature of materials. I am now exploring the world of caustics - those magical patterns that are formed when a beam of light travels through transparent textured materials."


These are refraction patterns or 'caustics' formed by a light beam passing through a shaped and textured plastic form. Coloured dyes were added to the clear plastic as it hardened adding further distortions to the shapes. The pattern formed by the light beam is captured directly on to 35mm film by removing the camera lens and putting the transparent object in its place. The film is digitally scanned for uploading. Please note these are not computer generated images but a true analogue of the way light is refracted by the objects I create.

"Laleh Khorramian is doing something so seemingly simple but pleasurable that it's surprising more artists don't do it: She makes aqueous quasi-abstract drawings, then films them, later adding animated sequences and other low-tech effects to create magic lantern movies and moving landscapes. Here, emaciated pixies, possessed stick figures, and golems enact obscure, vaguely mythic rituals and acts of violence and contrition. The results are velvety and visionary, although unresolved."
